It is advisable to remove the current baseboards and quarter round trim before sanding if you intend to install new ones. However, it’s not always mandatory to remove the existing moldings if you’re not planning to replace them.
What is the procedure for addressing scuffs or stain marks on baseboards or quarter rounds, and can you stay in your home during the refinishing process?
The responsibility for proper protection and touch-up of baseboards and quarter rounds usually lies with the homeowner. If you’d like us to handle the touch-up, we’re happy to discuss options with you. Regarding staying in your home during refinishing, it depends on factors such as the scope of your project. For extensive projects involving the entire home, including hallways and stairs, it may be practical to schedule time away. However, if the project is limited to specific areas, staying in your home might be feasible. Consideration of finish or stain preferences may also influence your decision.
What power connection is needed for sanders, and is access to my circuit breaker required?
Our main wood-floor sander requires a 220-volt (40 AMP) connection for safety. Our professional crews are equipped to handle the proper hookup, ensuring safe electricity use. In some instances, electricians may be necessary for a proper connection if one is not already available.
What is the distinction between stain and finish, and can engineered floors be refinished?
Stains primarily provide color and minimal protection, while finishes contain protective resins and offer minimal color. Staining is not always necessary, but applying finish is essential. As for engineered floors, professional sanding may result in a loss of 1/32 of an inch, allowing 1-2 sandings with a 2mm veneer. However, refinishing floors will void the wear warranty.
